Magazine Front Cover Draft

This was done before the Christmas holiday. I know I haven't done much but due to time management, I was only able to get this done.

I've conformed to conventions because I have included a main image, a masthead, a pull quote, and a skyline and a footer.

Obviously I need to add more like feature stories, plugs, a barcode, a date and price. I also feel like I need to use a diffent image as the image seems slightly blurred

Band Inspirations

The band that will feature in my magazine will be a duo consisting of a female singer/bassist and a male drummer. I have decided to change my chosen sub-genre of just alternative rock and do numerous rock sub-genres after seeing the results of my survey.
The gimmick for the band, in terms of looks, will be inspired by bi-polar disorder, with each band member representing a different emotion and the Joker and Harley Quinn as they are both psychotic characters with unique images that would fit in perfectly in a rock band with amazing face paint.

Costume Designs

For my first costume, I have chosen a black leather jacket, dark, grey jeans, black heels and a choker. I came up with this idea because it looks simple but effective. It follows the stereotype of rock stars wearing black. The "biker look", associated with motorcycles, is quite different for women as we don't see many women riding motorcycles, its seen as masculine but a female donning this look adds a more dominant feel for the lead singer.

For the hairstyle I've decided to go for two ponytails which is kind of like how a child would have their hair. This links in with the Harley Quinn inspired look because she has two pony tails in the recent Batman: Arkham games and she is immature and quite childlike.
For my second female costume idea, I decided to go for a punk rock look because it's quite popular within the rock genre. This consists of one side of the hair braided and the other side curled. It was and still is a common trait for punks to have unconventional, elaborate hairstyles which can attract attention. Again, I've included a leather jacket as it is a common material worn by punk rock artists and fans and leather gloves. It just brings a "hardcore" type style as it can sexualise a person but at the same time make them look more intimidating. The tartan skirt brings a sort of 80s style as tartan became associated with punk rock during that decade and the Chuck Taylors bring a 70s style.
The sub-genre of "Goth" is quite popular and commonly dark colours are associated with this style. Often artists draw inspiration for their clothing from history. For example, Amy Lee, the lead singer of Evanescence, likes to wear Victorian style clothing.

I've chosen a black jive dress from the 40s or 50s because its quite different to what someone would normally wear and the upper body section of the dress is shaped similar to a corset (Victorian) and the lower section is big and wide. The elbow length, fingerless gloves looks like something a ninja would wear but it makes the arms look less bare and adds more black to the look. The fish-net stockings makes the look seem more sexy and attractive and again, adds black to the legs. The make up is black. I chose Doc Marten shoes as they're made from leather which gives a hardcore feel to the style and they're black.
I came up with this idea from what I see around college. I see a lot of people, who like rock, wear black. And this style is affordable.

I've chosen a black shirt because it's very simple. Black skinny jeans, and I see a lot of people wear them with rips in the knee(s) which makes it relatable to rock as it conforms to the stereotype of a messy rockstar. And canvas shoes because they look simple and they were associated with rock/punk in the 70s and 80s and still are.
I came up with this idea from doing research into rock fashion from the different decades.

Grey jeans were more common around the 80s and 90s punk fashion. Also Doc Martens were a popular brand in the UK around the early 80s with punk fans. Again, I chose leather because its a common/ popular material within rock culture.
I came up with this look as not only do a lot of Goth rockers wear clothes from history but they also wore clothes that had a more horror/ supernatural look.

The hoodie I've chose seems quite demonic as the design resembles a reptilian-looking creature (the design looks like scales) with a hood, adding a sort-of shadow priest look to seem mysterious. The grey jeans I chose because the hoodie draws in most of the attention with the mysterious-reptilian look. I've chosen big black boots so the artist is taken seriously and I always thought that boots add intimidation.

Photographs

These are some of the pictures I have taken that could potentially be on the front of my music magazine. The models are Jack Hogan and Rebecca Chapman. I was meant to have three members but due to unforeseen circumstances, one member had to drop out. I have gone for the bi-polar and Harley Quinn/Joker look because it looks very unconventional and isn't cliché. They are wearing black leather jackets and black jeans which falls into the genre of rock fashion.

Potential Double Page Spread Images

Some of the photographs I have taken, have come out quite blurry which might have happened for numerous reasons, the quality of the camera, I didn't use a camera stand or Rebecca and Jack might have moved a bit.
