Preliminary Task Evaluation

What have you learnt from completing this task?

  • Time management
  • How to use blogger
  • The different conventions in a magazine
  • How to be an independent learner
  • How to analyse media texts

How have you used technology?

  • I used a camera to take photographs and an SD card to store my photographs on so then I could upload them to the computer.
  • I used photoshop to construct my magazine front cover by uploading the images I took onto it and adding text.
  • I have used blogger to upload all of my work on.
  • I have  used Microsoft Powerpoint and Publisher to do some of the planning and I saved them as JPEG files so then I could upload them to my Blogger as images

What conventions have you used and why?
The conventions I have used are:

  • Masthead- To let my audience know the name of the college magazine
  • Main Feature- The main attraction of my college magazine.
  • Main Image- To show who the subject of my main feature is to the audience.
  • Pull Quote- To leave the audience asking questions as to what main feature is about so they can buy the magazine and answer their questions.
  • Feature Stories- Other attractions for  my college magazine
  • Plug- To show where special offers are
  • Skyline- To let the audience know that this is my first college magazine issue
  • Footer- To tease the audience of what else the  magazine has to offer.
  • Date- To let the audience know how recent the stories are in the magazine
  • Price- To let the audience know how much the magazine will cost

What would you change if you were to do this task again?

  • I would change the layout of the blog to make it more easy to follow and in chronological order.
  • I could add more detail and do more planning and research so I have more ideas to choose from and to make it look like I have thought carefully about everything in my front cover.
  • I could have included more photographs in my magazine or I could have done a two shot of a male student and a female student to make it more neutral.
  • My main image isn't great because I took the photograph in a green room and the lighting that was used shined onto the green screen and green light reflected onto the model's left side. I was unsure of how to change the skin colour on Photoshop, so maybe I could have asked for help.
